Workplaces can be chaotic and full of dramas. Despite that, it’s still fun and exciting. Many employees realised it when everyone had to work from home for a while. Nothing compares to what the work environment brings. While it’s possible to continue working from home, it doesn’t help build relationships.
The problem is that even when employees can go back to work again, it might not be the same anymore. It feels awkward to be around colleagues. Mask wearing might also remain. Desks will get spaced out to maintain social distance. Given these reasons, is it possible to make the workplace fun again?
Start with a bang
The first thing to do is organise a welcoming party. It’s time to celebrate since everyone is back. You can also be in the same place, and it’s okay. When almost everyone got vaccinated, there’s a low risk of getting infected. If you want to make it grand, consider having a funfair hire. You don’t have to do the heavy lifting yourself. You can work with experts in hosting the fair. Discuss the details you want to see during the party and be there to have fun. Your employees will appreciate it.
Start regular office games
You can also organise games in the office and do them regularly. Offer prizes to all participants. Give more to the winners. In doing so, you start to bring back the festive spirit. You also help build relationships. If there are new employees, they will appreciate your effort to make them feel comfortable. If you can’t think of any game, assign your employees to lead one.
Be a good role model
If you wish to promote a positive environment, you have to start it. Be positive in dealing with your employees. Flash a huge smile when giving instructions. Even if you have a lot on your plate, try to stay hopeful. If you don’t look happy, your employees will feel the same. Everything starts from the top. Take a break if you feel exhausted. You deserve to rest. Even if you worked from home for many months, it was still challenging. Now that you have to lead in a regular work environment, you’re up for a more significant challenge.
It takes time
You can’t expect everyone to feel good as soon as you get back to work. Some might feel worried about being in a regular office. Others worry about their children since they might have to continue studying from home. Your employees will feel anxious all the time, and it’s normal. Give them time to adjust to the work setting and motivate them to do their best. You probably feel the same, and you also need sufficient time to adjust. Don’t place yourself under immense pressure to be the best leader right away.
Take your time to speak with your employees to know how they feel. They might tell you what bothers them, and you can extend help. When they don’t feel good, work productivity is on the line.
