5 Vital Pieces of Equipment Every Medical Practice Needs

Navigating the world of medical equipment can get complicated when starting a new medical practice. Every practice has its own specialty, so you’ll need to buy the relevant equipment. You’ll also need to keep in mind more general equipment.

For example, your practice should account for the different illnesses your patients may have. You may also want to invest in bariatric equipment designed for larger individuals.

Here are five of the many vital pieces of equipment you should purchase.

1. Patient Monitors

Arguably the most important medical supplies you should invest in are patient monitors. These monitors are used all across the medical industry for checking a patient’s vitals, such as their heart rate and blood oxygen levels.

A person’s vital signs are important to keep track of, regardless of what your specialty is. For example, high blood pressure may lead to a heart attack or a stroke. It is also linked to poor brain function.

2. EKG/ECG Machines

Electrocardiogram machines record the activity inside of a patient’s heart. It’s important for any medical office to monitor the overall rhythm of the heart and check for anything out of the norm.

The reason you would want this type of machine is that heart issues don’t always present themselves in obvious ways. Using an EKG will let you know if a patient needs to see a cardiologist or should visit the emergency room.

3. Diabetic Equipment

Diabetes can cause a lot of issues that permeate every medical field. At a doctor’s office, a person with low or high blood sugar may pass out. It can cause problems with your nerves, your lungs, and your heart.

You should always have diabetes supplies on hand. That includes some kind of diabetic blood testing kit and glucose tablets to treat low blood sugar.

4. Oxygen Equipment

People with diagnosed respiratory issues usually carry their own oxygen supplies. However, accidents happen. If a patient forgets the charger to their oxygen concentrator at home or damages their device at your office, then they need a temporary replacement.

Oxygen tanks are affordable to keep stocked and easily refilled. You’ll also need to invest in the tubing and cannulas for the patient to use.

5. Comfortable Chairs

Your staff is some of the most important pieces to your entire operation. Without them, you wouldn’t be able to run your practice. They deserve some comfortable and ergonomic seating options.

Any office setting needs good chairs to prevent back problems and poor posture from developing. You’ll also appreciate the decision when you need to sit down to do some paperwork.

Outfit Your Medical Practice

You should always have the right medical tools for patient care, regardless of your medical practice. Even if you don’t use that equipment regularly, you never know when someone will need oxygen readily available or their blood glucose levels tested.

Your practice should also be a comfortable place to work. Providing that kind of environment is one of the best ways to foster employee loyalty.
