Remove Access to Food
If you grow a garden in your yard with delicious veggies or fruits, then iguanas will want to snack on them as well. If you don’t protect your garden from predators, then iguanas can walk right up to it and have themselves a meal.
To stop this from happening, install a wire fence around your garden. This will keep them from accessing it. You should also keep a lid on your trash outside and place a heavy brick on the top to keep the lid closed.
Never leave food outside either. Cleaning up after yourself will keep the iguanas away.
Prevent Them From Climbing
If you have fruit trees growing in your yard, then you’ll need to protect them as well. Iguanas love to climb trees to munch on yummy fruit. To keep prevent them from climbing up the trees, install sheet metal around the trunk of the tree.
They won’t be able to dig their claws into the metal to grip it to climb. Be sure to wrap them about 18 inches high off the ground for it to be the most effective.
Maintain Your Yard
Iguanas enjoy yards with tall grass. Iguanas will crawl into the grass and use it as shelter. By keeping the grass mowed, iguanas won’t be as tempted to visit your yard.
Be sure to remove any other items where they can seek shelter, however. If they can find a hiding spot under a pile of rocks or inside a Jon boat, they will. You can also try a DIY natural iguana repellent in the yard as well.
Fill Their Holes
Once they get in your yard, iguanas love to dig. They’ll dig themselves holes that they then burrow themselves in. When you notice the iguana leaving the yard, be sure to fill the hole.
Use rocks to fill the majority of the hole with, then fill the top of the hole with dirt. The iguana won’t be able to dig through the rocks. If there’s an iguana inside the hole when you fill it, it won’t be able to dig itself out, so be sure it’s empty before doing so.
Hire the Professionals
The last option you have to get rid of iguanas is to hire the professionals. Professional iguana control consists of using several different products that’ll ward off the iguanas.
