5 Awesome Tips to Help You Learn Russian

If you have a lot of downtime in your life currently, you might have considered using this time to learn a second language. And why not?

Many people want to learn multiple languages to broaden their horizons and understand new cultures. That’s why it’s one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions each year.

Russian is one of the world’s ten most popular languages, with hundreds of millions of fluent speakers around the globe. If you’re attempting to learn Russian, you have a few challenges ahead of you but many worthy rewards.

There are many different resources and guides to help you learn Russian out there. However, you still might need a few tips and tricks to help you get the language down. Read on and we’ll walk you through what you need to know.

1. Get Familiar With the Cyrillic Alphabet

There’s no way around it: if you want to learn to read and speak the language, you’re going to need to deeply familiarize yourself with the Cyrillic alphabet. That might sound frightening, but it really shouldn’t be as big of a challenge as it might seem at first glance.

If you’re an English speaker, you’ll be relieved to hear that the Cyrillic alphabet is actually derived from Latin and Greek letters, the same alphabet set we used to eventually develop English. That means that many of the letters that you’ll be learning will bear a strong resemblance to that of the English language.

The look and sound of the letters might be a little different, but you should have a jumping-off point. The Cyrillic alphabet is a few letters longer than the English one (with 33 characters, that’s seven more than you are used to) but it shouldn’t be too much more to memorize.

2. Start With Basic Phrases

Every language has phrases that are going to be used more often than any other. Getting the hang of these common saying can give you a footing to build off of. They can also help you out a lot if you find yourself in a Russian-speaking environment and need to get your bearings.

Some of the most basic Russian phrases include:

  • Доброе утро (Good morning)
  • До свидания (Goodbye)
  • Пожалуйста (Please)
  • Спасибо (Thank you)
  • Да (Yes)
  • Нет (No)

These are general all-purpose phrases that you can use to communicate at the simplest level. Of course, if you’re traveling to Russia for a specific purpose or to do a specific kind of work, there might be phrases that you’ll want to familiarize yourself with that are related to that subject matter.

You’ll need to dive in much deeper if you really want to become even somewhat fluent in Russian, but having a little vocabulary under your belt never hurt anyone. You can always use a Russian translation service if you need to learn specific phrases quickly.

3. Hard and Soft Consonants

If there’s a trick to getting Russian down pat, it’s getting on top of your consonants. There are so many consonants in the Russian language because there are actually two kinds you need to learn about: hard and soft.

Which kind of consonant is being used will rapidly alter the sound of a word. What’s the rule to stay on top of these kinds of things? If a consonant falls at the very end of a Russian word, it will be hard. That is the simplest scenario.

What else? You’ll actually have to look at the letters that come after: if a consonant is followed by a у, а, о, э or ы than you’ll be hearing a hard sound.

Soft consonants are followed by different characters from the alphabet: ю, я, ё, е, or и.

It can take a decent amount of time to get in the habit of looking for these consonants, especially if you’re just being exposed to the Cyrillic alphabet for the first time.

4. Find Cognates

One other way to help your mind get used to grasping Russian is to look for popular cognates. Cognates are words that look and sound similar in two different languages. In the case of English and Russian, there are many.

Getting familiar with these words can help you to find a bridge between the English language and characters you are used to and this new, foreign one.

Some English to Russian cognates that might be helpful to get familiar with includes Телефон, Такси, and Температура, which means telephone, taxi, and temperature respectively.

There are many more cognates out there that you can familiarize yourself with if you need to.

5. Learn Russian Grammar Rules

There are many rules to familiarize yourself with if you’re hoping to learn Russian properly. Grammar is a big deal. Much like in the French and Spanish languages, you’ll need to understand the gender that is assigned to each noun. You’ll need to memorize which nouns are which genders.

Looking at the last letter in a Russian word should tip you off to whether it’s a masculine or feminine word. If the word ends in a consonant, it’ll be masculine. If it ends with a or я, it will be feminine.

There are some exceptions to this rule but it’s not something that you should worry yourself with when you first starting learning Russian. It’s better to stick to the hard-and-fast rules and learn the exceptions in due time.

Use These Tips to Help You Learn Russian

Learning any kind of new language can be difficult, but Russian specifically has many challenges one will have to work through. If you’re hoping to learn Russian this year, the above tips and tricks can help.

These Are the Best Types of Commercial Fencing

Maybe you’re looking to provide some security for your business? Perhaps you’re in need of more privacy? Whatever the case may be, you’re looking to install a commercial fence.

The only question you have now is: what types of commercial fencing are the best? Generally speaking, the answer to this question is subjective. So, to help you decide on which material is the best for your purposes, we’re going to review them all below. Let’s go!

Chain Link

Perhaps the most common of all commercial fences is the chain link fence. The reason for its extreme popularity? Good functionality at a low price.

See, chain link fences can be installed at around $7 per linear foot. This enables businesses to install large amounts of fencing on an exceedingly small budget.

Now, chain link fencing might not be as strong as steel, and it might not provide the privacy of vinyl and composite, and it might not possess the aesthetic of wood, but it still provides decent performance, particularly in the way of security. As such, it’s commonly seen around factories, warehouses, and even prisons (sometimes adorned with barbed wire).

If you own a particularly large commercial property, and you’re trying to provide it with a decent amount of security, a chain link fence is probably your best option. And if you’re in need of privacy as well, you can just equip it with privacy slats. It’s a low-cost, above-average performance material that suits many commercial purposes.

Steel

Another commercial fencing material to consider is steel. Strong, tough, and durable, it’s built to last through decades of extreme wear and tear. In fact, in many cases, it will last entire lifetimes.

There’s no doubt: steel is a terrific security fencing material. In fact, it can reasonably be called the best security fencing material. As such, it thrives when used around high-security areas such as government buildings.

Of course, there are downsides to steel. For one, it doesn’t provide much in the way of privacy. You can adorn it with privacy slats, though the practice is not common.

There’s also the issue of price. Simply put, steel fencing is expensive. Per linear foot, its installation runs at around $25.

As such, if you’re installing steel fencing over a large area, it’s going to cost you a pretty penny. Because of this, you’re only advised to use this material for the highest of security purposes.

Wrought Iron

Next up is wrought iron. Arguably the most attractive fencing material in existence, it’s commonly seen around old Victorian houses. That said, it’s used on commercial properties as well.

Wrought iron shares a lot of similarities with steel. It lasts forever (sometimes over 100 years), it’s physically tough, and it serves terrifically for security purposes. These characteristics combined with its regal aesthetic make it a highly desirable fencing material for many businesses.

Note, however, that there are some drawbacks to wrought iron fencing. For one — and any commercial fencing company will tell you — it requires quite a bit of maintenance. Because it is, in fact, made out of iron, it rusts fairly easily. As such, it needs to be de-rusted and re-painted every 5 to 8 years.

It also lacks privacy. And because it’s known for aesthetics, it’s not traditionally adorned with privacy slats. This makes it a borderline terrible choice for privacy purposes.

Lastly, there’s the issue of cost. Like steel fencing, wrought iron fencing is expensive; in fact, it’s even more expensive than steel, running at around $30 per linear foot. It’s important to note, though, that because it can last for an entire century, it provides quite a bit of bang for its buck.

Vinyl

If you run a restaurant or office building, you might have a use for a vinyl fence. These fences provide a good combination of aesthetics and functionality, and at a downright affordable price to boot. Generally speaking, you can install a vinyl fence at around $17 per linear foot.

Vinyl fences provide excellent privacy and are generally very secure as well. They may not be strong enough to protect prisons and warehouses, but they’re definitely sufficient for low-security properties like the above-mentioned restaurants and office buildings.

Available in a variety of colors, vinyl fencing is sure to match the aesthetic of your property. And with a sleek and shiny exterior, it’s sure to provide your building with an enhanced appearance.

Wood

Another material to consider is, of course, wood, one of the oldest fencing materials in existence. Aesthetically gorgeous and capable of enhancing a property’s aesthetic substantially, wood fencing is more commonly used around residential properties. That said, there’s no reason that you couldn’t use it on a commercial property.

In terms of privacy and security, it’s as good as any fencing material you’ll come across. Tough and durable, it can thrive for around 50 years. And considering that it only costs $12 per linear foot, it’s easy on your budget as well.

However, there is one big downside to wood fencing. That downside is its intense need for maintenance. Wood fencing not only needs to be cleaned on a regular basis, but it also needs to be stained, sealed, and painted.

Failure to regularly seal your wood fence will lead to premature deterioration due to water damage. Failure to stain and paint it will lead to a worn-down and ugly aesthetic.

So, while wood fencing is reasonably affordable up-front, it can cost you quite a bit of money over time.

All Types of Commercial Fencing to Choose From

As you can see, there are all types of commercial fencing for you to choose from. Whatever your preferences and needs, there is sure to be a fencing material that meets them.

Top 5 Major Benefits of Whole Life Insurance

One of the most important decisions you will ever make for your family is choosing to get life insurance. With life insurance, your loved ones are covered in the event of your passing.

If they are dependent on your income, your life insurance will provide for them in the event of your death. However, the life insurance market, much like any other market, is filled with competing products.

The main choice you will be confronted with when shopping for life insurance is whether to purchase term life insurance or whole life insurance. But what are the benefits of whole life insurance? Read this guide to find out.

1. Whole Life Insurance Never Expires

One of the most obvious whole life policy benefits is that, as the name suggests, it does not expire.

Other life insurance products have a term limit, often ten, twenty, or thirty years. After this period, your insurance policy expires and will have to negotiate a new one, often at a much higher cost.

A single whole life insurance policy will last a lifetime. As long as you pay your premiums, it will never expire.

2. Whole Life Insurance Has Tax Perks

When discussing what is whole life insurance good for, the first place you should look is your tax returns.

Not only are some premiums tax-deductible, but the death benefits received are non-taxable.

This is not the case with all life insurance death benefits. However, with whole life insurance, you and your loved ones do not have to pay a penny of the payouts to the IRS.

That means more of the money that your family needs and deserves.

3. Whole Life Insurance Builds Cash Value

One of the most attractive aspects of whole life insurance is that it constantly builds cash value.

As this guide to the cash value of whole life insurance explains, every premium payment you make is split up by the insurer.

Some of it goes towards the death payment, while the rest goes to the cash value of the policy.

This can be cashed in at any time, allowing you to build on your financial security and accumulate accessible cash.

4. Whole Life Insurance Policies Do Not Change

Another one of the major whole life insurance benefits is that your policy and your premiums will never change as long as you hold that policy.

That means that the insurers can never change the terms and conditions of your policy.

If you’re wondering “what does whole life insurance cover?”, you can have the peace of mind knowing that whatever coverage you pay for will always remain the same, no matter what.

5. Whole Life Insurance Offers Fixed Payments

Finally, another one of the key advantages of whole life insurance is that it offers fixed premiums and benefits.

Your premiums will stay the same throughout the lifetime of the policy, meaning you don’t need to worry about unexpected rate hikes.

In addition, you can rest assured that benefits will remain constant. This means that your loved ones will always receive a guaranteed amount of money as a result of your whole life insurance policy.

The Benefits of Whole Life Insurance and Your Personal Finances…

Overall, the main benefits of whole life insurance concern stability, which is crucial in personal finance.

A Guide to Choosing The Best Power Company

According to experts, United States homeowners paid around $0.002 less per kilowatt during this summer than last year. However, you can save even more by choosing the best electric company.

It doesn’t matter if you have been using a certain provider for a while. You should always try your best to make an informed decision to ensure you choose your best option.

Don’t know how? We’ve got you covered. Here are the 5 steps you should follow to choose the best electric utility company.

1. Take a Look at Your Current Plan

If you have a provider already, you should take a look at your current plan and contract. What are the terms and conditions of the deal? How much are you paying every month?

Ask yourself questions to figure out where you stand when it comes to your electricity bill. Chat with your neighbors and loved ones to compare your utility costs. If you’re moving into a new apartment or home, you can ask your leasing agent or realtor for a list of providers you can use.

2. Estimate Your Energy Use

Getting the best deal will depend on your electricity consumption. Before discussing your options with a provider, you should estimate your energy use.

Take a look at your prior bills to gain insight into your average electricity consumption. Keep in mind your energy use will vary on a season and habit basis.

3. Choose Your Desired Plan and Contract Length

Before shopping around, it’s vital to define your desired plan and contract term. Depending on your provider, you may be able to choose a fixed rate, green energy, or variable-rate plan. Some power companies may even offer free nights and weekends plan.

To obtain the best deal, it’s important to lock your rate for a certain timeframe. You may be able to get a contract for as little as 6 months up to 24 or more months depending on your provider. Figuring out these details beforehand will allow you to easily compare potential providers.

4. Shop Around at Several Providers

You might be using the same energy provider for a while. Yet, you should still compare providers using sites such as Electricity Scout, among others. Search for a power company that services your zip code.

Make sure to compare customer reviews and their plans. You can find details about their offers on their website. Narrow down a list of the best providers so you can reach out to learn more about your options.

5. Choose Your Power Company

Shopping around is essential to choose the best electricity provider. After surveying their websites and narrowing down a list, it’s time to reach out to their representatives and discuss their offers.

Depending on your energy consumption, you may consider a tiered plan to lock a flat rate. Try your best to secure an offer that fits your energy needs and stays within your budget.

Can You Choose the Best Electric Company?

You can choose the best electric company for your business or home if you follow our step-by-step guide. It may be tempting to stick to your current provider, but you should still shop around. The key to finding the best energy company is doing your research and trying your best to make an informed decision.

How Does a Home Warranty Work? The Complete Guide

Worker professionally installs floor boards

Imagine having to deal with a broken furnace in the dead of winter a week from moving into your new home?

It would be inconvenient, super stressful, and possibly expensive to fix. The beauty of a home warranty is that you wouldn’t have to worry about the expense and the fact that its market is worth $2.5 billion says a lot.

The question is, how does a home warranty work? Home warranties protect homeowners from the financial risk of maintaining their homes. However, it’s not quite the same thing with homeowners’ insurance, which is the most confusing part for most people.

To help you understand all the nitty-gritty details about home warranties, we bring you this comprehensive guide. It covers everything you may want to know about a home warranty, and why it may be a good idea to get one.

What Is a Home Warranty?

Basically, a home warranty is a service insurance policy for the major systems and appliances in your home.

Some of these systems and appliances include indoor plumbing, fridges, electrical systems, ovens, dryers, watching machines, HVAC systems, dishwashers, and water heaters. The warranty pays to fix and replace them if and when they break.

This warranty doesn’t cover things like windows, doors, or any other structural features of your home. Moreover, the warranty is only designed to cover items that are in working condition upon occupancy of the house but then fail later on. The home warranty contract is usually valid for a year, and it offers varying levels of coverage.

All home warranty providers offer different levels of coverage and pricing. Homeowners get to choose which level suits their home best. Some warranties only cover basic repairs, others cover major appliances, while others cover only the systems.

Typically, a warranty that covers basic repairs will be more expensive than one that covers replacements as well.

How Does a Home Warranty Work?

Most home warranties operate the same way. So when a system or appliance in your home breaks down, you notify the home warranty company. In turn, they contact a service provider they trust and ask them to come check it out.

The provider will come to your home and fix the issue or report that it can’t be fixed depending on its condition. You will have to pay a small service trade fee, which may cost anywhere between $75 and $100 and may be negotiable when signing up for the warranty plan. The warranty usually doesn’t reimburse out-of-pocket expenses, so avoid repairing it on your own.

How Do Home Warranties Differ From Manufacturer’s Warranties?

A lot of homeowners tend to feel that since manufacturer warranties cover their appliances, they have no need for a home warranty.

You see, a manufacturer’s warranty only covers a specific item for a specified period of time, after which it expires. Generally, these warranties offer repairs, servicing, and sometimes replacements for said items.

Most last an average of one year, after which you would need an extended warranty. The problem is, manufacturers warranties cover original items bought by original owners. This means that if these appliances are already installed in the home, you won’t be able to take advantage of the warranties provided.

Even if you’re the original buyer, an extended warranty will cost you and still expire after some time. Paying for several extended warranties for all your appliances will set you back more money. It’s relatively cheaper to pay a home warranty covering all appliances and possibly systems together.

How Do Home Warranties Differ From Homeowners Insurance Policies?

Homeowners insurance policies cover major and unexpected damages, like structural damages to the house due to flooding, and fires. It also covers other things like theft and accidents.

For example, if one of your water pipes burst and damaged the refrigerator motor in the process, your homeowner’s insurance would cover the costs.

However, if the refrigerator broke down on its own due to things like a malfunction or wear and tear, the home warranty would cover the costs. So, how does a home warranty work? It covers all your repairs and replacement issues immediately.

What Are the Benefits of a Home Warranty?

Appliances and home systems are bound to break down at one point, and it’s impossible to tell when that’s going to happen.

One of the most significant benefits of a home warranty is that it’s less expensive than the costs involved in repairing and replacing these appliances and systems. For a fixed annual price and a small service call fee, you can have any of these items repaired or replaced immediately.

Beyond that, it’s a super-fast and straightforward process. Once you request a service, the company will dispatch a professional technician to your home. As long as you find a reputable and professional home insurance company, you’ll have your appliance up and running in no time.

Even better, you will have access to a network of professional and established technicians. This will eliminate the process of searching for the best service providers. The insurance deductible you also have to pay will be upfront, and you will know exactly how much to pay when the technician comes over.

What Are the Downsides of a Home Warranty?

Most of the time, you’ll find that the downsides are with the insurance companies themselves, which is why it’s vital to find the right one. For instance, since repairs are always cheaper than replacements, you may find that a company insists on repairing while what you need is a replacement.

You may also disagree on the prices and value of the systems or appliances when the company wants to reduce the amount they spend on you.

Beyond that, you need to be extra careful with the fine print of the contract. They mostly come with many limitations and exclusions. They might catch you off guard when you need them the most.

Plus, you’ll have to prove that the appliance or system was working properly. If they can prove there was a pre-existing issue, they’ll not fix it. Finding a professional and reputable home warranty company, such as Select Home Warranty, is essential.

Everything You Need to Know About How Home Warranties Work

So, how does a home warranty work? This is a question most homeowners ask, although very few take the initiative to get one.

It may not seem necessary, but it’ll save you on those unexpected repairs and replacements in case you won’t have enough money to cover for them. You won’t have to wait until your next payday to get anything fixed or replaced as the company will do it immediately.

Top Trends Of Data Science That Will Shape Technology In 2020

Have you ever wondered how all the data from modern tech solutions is generated? Who turns the enormous amount of statistics into meaningful data? Who can read the data that every solution, from a smartphone to a smart home, brings? It is the data miners, acquisition experts, and interpreters who are behind it all. And, this is the reason data scientists are the most sought-after in the modern-day era.

The data miners, as evident from their name, monitor and extract data through algorithms, machine learning, and Big Data. They use a combination of tools to find out information and translate it into something useful. They are the ones who conceptualize, organize, and analyze structured and unstructured data. It is due to them that inarguably every digital process depends on them.

These digital processes happen every day in almost every sphere of life and create a significant impact. Data science digs deep into them to carve out the numbers and refines the end-user experience in the longer run. It is evident in product reviews to business decisions and financial forecasts or studying consumer preferences.

The said points are adequate to aspire one to become a data scientist. However, the process of reaching that absolute peak in one’s career is not easy. It is essential to establish a strong foundation and gain the comprehension of statistical calculations. To do so, one should enroll in a bachelors of data science program to build solid concepts.

But before you do that, you’ll need to know what the field of data science promises for the future. And that’s precisely what we will assist you with. Let us look at the top trends of data science that will shape technology during the year 2020.

  • Data Upsurge

During the ongoing year, we can expect to see an increasing number of organizations, businesses, and individuals generate data. We will see an overall upsurge in the numbers and statistics, bringing more insights to data science. To understand this, let’s look at how this data is generated. The fact is that every time we commute, be online on any social media platform, we create data. We also create a massive bulk of data over-time when we order food, go shopping online, or even send a simple text. During the rest of the year, this trend will increase further and bring in more data for scientists.

  • IoT Devices

Internet of Things (IoT) is a colossal pillar to today’s data science and brings real-time, credible data to the fore. It is the system that delivers the devices together and makes them interact to produce substantial, tangible data. It is based on this concept that we see continued development in the area of smart cities. In the rest of 2020, we would witness more smart cities coming into being and then changing the way people live. The interconnectivity of the devices is bound to govern many cities, enabling a better standard of living. For instance, a device installed at a house can automatically alert authorities about a fire situation in a smart city.

  • Industrial Boost

Big Data is another aspect of the Data Science bound to take it to a higher level of advancement. We can expect to see hundreds, if not thousands of businesses switch to more advanced solutions during the ongoing year. For instance, in sports, team managers are choosing solutions based on data to increase their chances of winning. They are relying on on-field sensors to study how players demonstrate better play. Secondly, the wearable can help players avoid injuries. Also, performance monitoring through the devices can help individual players up their game expeditiously.

Another example of an industrial uplift is how businesses can carry-out competitor analysis based on data. They can find out where they lack in particular compared to their competitors and then work to bring improvement. In 2020, we can see and experience and uplift in all such sectors, based on the data. Also, in the consumer industry, we see many companies leaving giants behind by better studying consumer habits and preferences.

  • AI & Automation

We have seen a rising number of computers mimic humans successfully and solving some of the many problems. And, during the ongoing year, we are going to see it go further up the ladder. Until recently, our focus has been on introducing programs that can solve human problems. However, now, we may see them learn some of the issues themselves and give them solutions accordingly. In this scenario, we would see more robots, virtual assistants, and social media monitors.

When computers blend with data science, automation becomes inevitable. From manufacturing units to self-driving cars, we would see further developments concerning automation. Similarly, many companies would move to a more automated process, based on data, thus increasing processes.

  • Cloud Computing

It isn’t possible by any means to see automation improve but not the computing. Based on crucial data insights, cloud computing would further emerge as a scientific solution. The storage and analysis of data have become much more beneficial through cloud computing. During the year 2020 and upcoming years, we would expect a more significant rise in the use of data-driven software and applications. We will be witnessing many organizations rising above the limitations by investing more in the cloud solutions.

Final Word

Technology and data science are a natural combination as both support each other to produce insightful solutions. The more data-driven we’re becoming, the better grasp we are having at our processes and lives in general. As we progress, we see more developments in every industry sector. Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, and other data science methods are bound to lead the pace of the progress. Quite soon, we’d see more automation, virtual assistance, cloud computing, as well as automation governing the change. As a result, businesses will experience robust growth without limitations.

AC Maintenance: How Often Should You Change Your Air Filter?

The average residential air conditioning system is designed to last for about 12 to 17 years before needing to be replaced. If you want to make sure yours lasts that long—or longer!—it’ll be important for you to maintain it properly.

One of the most basic forms of AC maintenance that you can do is replacing your air conditioning filter. Putting a new air conditioner filter into the place of an old one only takes a few seconds, but it can increase the lifespan of your AC system exponentially.

So, how often should you change your air filter? The truth is that it really all depends on a number of different factors.

Generally speaking, you should only have to replace an HVAC filter about once every three months or so. But you may have to do it more often than that as part of your HVAC maintenance plan in some cases.

Here are some of the different factors that could impact how often you need to change your AC system’s air filter.

What Type of Air Filter You’re Using

Do you tend to buy the cheapest air filters that you can find when you’re in the market for them? This is going to affect the answer to the question, “How often should you change your air filter?”

As you’ll see when you shop for air filters on Filterbuy, there are so many different types of air filters for you to choose from these days. From cheap ones that won’t last long at all to pleated air filters that can give you up to six months of life, you have the option to pick out the air filter that’s going to work best in your home.

You should tinker with which air filters you use in your AC system to see which one is going to give you the most life before conking out on you. By spending a little bit extra on an air conditioning filter, you may be able to save yourself money in the long run.

How Often You’re Turning Your AC System On

Every single time you turn your home’s AC system on, it pulls air from your home through it and filters it with your air conditioner filter. With this in mind, it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to hear that, the more you use your AC system, the dirtier your HVAC filter is going to get.

Let’s say that you use your AC system every day in the summer to keep your home cool. You’re going to need to replace your air filter more often than you would have to if you only used it once a week or so.

You should think about how often you actually turn your home’s AC system on and replace your air filter accordingly based on that.

Where Your Home’s Indoor Air Quality Ranks

How is the indoor air quality in your home? This is a question that you should ask yourself when you’re wondering, “How often should you change your air filter?”

There are dozens of different things that can take a toll on your home’s indoor air quality and drag it down. From dirt and dust to smoke and pet dander, they can force your AC system to work harder than it should have to in order to filter your home’s air.

You should make it a point to try and improve your home’s indoor air quality if at all possible. This alone will work wonders for your AC system and keep it running longer.

But you should also make sure that you’re replacing your HVAC system’s air filter a little bit more than you might otherwise when your indoor air quality is poor. This will ensure that your system is able to continuously filter the air in your home without running into any major problems.

How Diligent You Are About Doing AC Maintenance

Are you someone who is hellbent on keeping your AC system in great shape for many years to come? It would be great if everyone took this approach to AC maintenance, but of course, not all homeowners are up for the challenge.

If you’re down to commit yourself to AC maintenance, you’re going to want to try and replace your AC system’s air filter more regularly than your neighbors might. You should get into the habit of inspecting your air filter every few days and replacing it once you see dirt, dust, and other debris building up on it.

The simple act of inspecting your air filter regularly could lead to you wanting to replace it before the 3-month mark.

What You Can Afford to Pay for Air Filters

At the end of the day, homeowners want to make sure they’re replacing their HVAC filters often enough. But they don’t want to do it so often that they end up costing themselves a small fortune.

You should consider what you can afford to pay for air filters and do it as often as your budget allows. In some cases, that might mean waiting the full three months until replacing them. But in other instances, you might find that you’re able to do it way more frequently by that.

It never hurts to replace air filters ahead of schedule. A fresh air filter will make your AC system more efficient and cut down on the other AC maintenance that you might need to do.

How Often Should You Change Your Air Filter? It All Depends

The easy answer to the question, “How often should you change your air filter?”, is three months. Your AC system should be OK if you replace your air filter that often.

But you should consider where your home fits in when it comes to the factors mentioned here and use them to guide you along the way as you maintain your home’s AC system. You could very well find that you need to replace your air filter more than every three months to keep your AC in excellent condition.

Top 7 Flooring Options for Bathroom—Ranked!

Any kind of home renovation involves research and decision making. Yet, it can be exciting to select those items that will transform your home from the makeover.

When you select flooring for your kitchen, family room, or dining room, you likely are thinking about how said flooring will look. What color does it bring to the room? What aesthetic does it bring to the room?

Yet, for a bathroom renovation, you have other considerations. The exposure to water has to change your considerations for flooring.

So, what is the best flooring for bathroom renovations? Read on for the best 7 flooring options to consider if you are renovating your bathroom.

1. Natural Stones

There are a variety of natural stone options that are the best for a bathroom remodel. Whether you choose marble, granite, or limestone, natural stone will improve your bathroom look and feel.

Natural stone floorings are durable and hard. They are also aesthetically beautiful. Natural stone options come in so many options, in the form of colors and shapes. It gives you an endless array of options.

All these features make them a great bathroom flooring choice.

The one thing to know about natural stone is that it can be slippery. You want to choose the natural stone that might have some texture to help with the possibility of slipperiness. Natural stone can also be cold, especially if you live in a climate with winters. Many choose to have heat put under the stone to heat it in the cold weather.

While natural stone can be costly, it’s durability makes it worth it.

2. Porcelain and Ceramic Tile

Porcelain and ceramic tile offer all the benefits of natural stone. But maybe without the heftier price tag. Ceramic and porcelain tile also has an endless array of color, shape, and texture options.

Like stone, ceramic, and porcelain tile is highly durable. It is also nearly water-resistant. Of the two, porcelain tile is even more resistant than ceramic.

This type of tile has many of the same features, good and bad, like stone. Yet, the lower cost is an advantage. One thing to consider is that while it offers many options for design, the more complicated the design aesthetic, the more costly and complicated to install.

3. Engineered Wood

It’s hard to resist the look of natural wood. Yet, in a bathroom where there is inevitably water, it’s a terrible idea. If you love the look of wood but want it to be more durable, consider engineered wood.

Engineered wood will offer the look and style of real wood, yet be much more durable.

The engineered wood is put together starting with a plywood base. This plywood does fine with water as needed. Then atop the plywood is a real wood veneer with a protective finish.

More durable than regular wood flooring in a bathroom, yet you still have all the aesthetics and it’s more waterproof.

4. Waterproof Laminate

There is again an endless assortment of options with waterproof laminate. Some options that you might even be convinced are real wood flooring.

While waterproof, technically, you still do need to watch water around the waterproof laminate. If the waterproof laminate is carefully installed so it’s very tight, limiting the possibility of water soaking down to the base, you are likely okay.

Waterproof laminate starts with a wood chip base. Then is coated with a resin paper. The resin paper is actually a photograph used by manufacturers to create the flooring. On top of the resin paper, a clean coat is applied to the surface to protect the flooring.

While it’s quite durable and this option has recently greatly improved in quality, you do still have to watch possible water issues.

5. Waterproof Vinyl

Waterproof vinyl is by far one of the most popular choices for bathroom design. It has two big advantages. It’s waterproof, making it a great choice and it’s very cost-effective.

The vinyl can come in sheets, planks, or tiles. Each offers easy installation. The sheets are nice because there are few or no seams where water might seep through.

As vinyl has gained in popularity, so have the options available for it. That means vinyl continues to be an inexpensive and wide-ranging option for bathroom flooring.

6. Cork

Cork might surprise you as an option for flooring, yet it shouldn’t. Get past the idea that the cork will look like a bulletin board on the ground. That could not be further from the truth.

Cork is highly durable and handles water well. It does need to be sealed every few years to sustain itself.

One nice feature of cork is that it has grainy texture and patterns that are natural to it. This is visually nice for design purposes, yet it also gives the cork some texture making it less slippery than some other options.

7. Concrete

Surprisingly, concrete can work for more than the driveway. Some choose concrete if they already have a slab foundation. Yet, concrete has taken on quite a hip edge in recent years.

Concrete can be poured as a floor. It can be dyed and stamped to get a pattern and color too. One great feature of concrete is that it can withstand water with no problem.

Many who have made concrete popular in design will polish it. While this gives it a lovely aesthetic, it can also make it slippery. Consider asking for the concrete to have a small amount of texture to avoid the slipperiness of it.
